I often use fitness, animal training, or parenting references to help you make sense of things. I enjoy guiding first responders/military/veterans through the "ick" left by critical incidents. I also work with older adolescents and adults, providing support through life transitions, relationship issues (familial/friendship/romantic), anxiety, trauma, fitness/body image concerns, and more! My big floofy dog may sometimes make an appearance! (And in extremely rare cases, my toddler).
Hi, my name is Debbi Huntoon. I received a Master of Social Work degree from UNC- Chapel Hill. I am licensed by the states of North Carolina and Virginia as a clinical social worker. During graduate school internships I learned that my ability to help others depended on my willingness to help (change) myself. In the last 37 years I have engaged in my own treatment and have successfully served many clients in a variety of settings: all levels of education settings, inpatient and outpatient services for adult and pediatric patients, hospice, patients experiencing dementia and their families, and the state court system. We are all trying to cope with painful memories and experiences so that we can work, pay our bills, and care for our families.
I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience in helping my clients in their areas of self-development and growth.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in psychology and minor in sociology from Ithaca College. I received my Master of Science degree from Syracuse University specializing in vocational education counseling and Master of Science degree from State University of New York at Buffalo in Clinical social work specializing in medical and mental health.
My areas of expertise are marital/relationship counseling, work/life balance, stress management, anxiety and depression, anger management.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina. I have experience working with borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, trauma, LGBTQIA+ issues, chronic illness, and life transitions. I use a blend of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and solution-focused techniques to support your specific needs; whether that’s managing emotional intensity, reducing self-destructive patterns, or finding stability.
Healing may not be linear, and may even be a little messy, but it is possible- I invite you to reach out when you’re ready to take that next step.
