I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I graduated with my masters from New York University. I have worked on an inpatient psychiatry unit and in an outpatient clinic. I have experience working with chronic mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety.
Hello, my name is Amanda Johnson, and I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with several years of nursing experience across medical-surgical, chemical dependency, and psychiatric care settings. My treatment philosophy is rooted in a comprehensive, holistic approach that integrates psychotherapy, medication management, and non-pharmacological interventions tailored to individual patient needs.
Experienced PMHNP since 2013 have been helping in the community in Addiction and Mental Health. I promote support of our strengths in ourselves. I am not prescribing controlled medication at this time.
I’m a New York based double board-certified psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience helping adults manage depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and psychotic disorders. My approach is warm, collaborative, and rooted in evidence-based care. I take time to understand your symptoms, background, and goals to create a personalized treatment plan that fits your life. I completed my medical training at the University of Mumbai, followed by residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn and a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. My background includes work at institutions such as the Cleveland Clinic, NYU Langone, and currently New York-Presbyterian, where I serve as Unit Chief and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine. Whether you’re facing ongoing challenges or navigating a new diagnosis, I’m here to help you move forward with support and clarity.
I began my psychiatric nursing career after graduating from Columbia University School of Nursing in 2009. Several years later, I pursued an advanced practice degree, also at Columbia University, and earned a PhD. I lived in Poland and France before I arrived to the United States at the turn of this century. Given my international experience, I work in three languages: English, French, and Polish. I offer therapy and medication management and the clients and me decide on the best approach.
I am a psychiatrist with over fifteen year of experience with children, adolescents and adults, and am dually board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Following undergraduate studies at Barnard College, Columbia University and after medical school, I completed my psychiatry residency at Tufts University and my fellowship in child & adolescent psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
In addition to my clinical work, I have expertise in medical ethics focused on issues of consent, capacity, and shared decision-making in healthcare and for research trials. I also remain dedicated to teaching and mentorship of undergraduates, medical students and trainees.
